How to Change a Leather Watch Strap

How to Change a Leather Watch Strap

For over a century, Rotary has championed craftsmanship, versatility, and timeless style. One of the simplest ways to refresh your watch, without changing the watch itself, is by switching the strap.

What You’ll Need

  • A spring bar tool - precision is key, and this tool makes it simple.

  • A soft cloth - protect your watch case and crystal while you work.

  • A new leather strap - always check the lug width of your watch to ensure the perfect fit.

Step 1: Protect the Watch

Lay your watch face down on a soft cloth. This avoids any scratches to the case or crystal while you’re changing the strap.

Step 2: Remove the Old Strap

This can seem daunting, however using the tool in the correct manner should help with this.

  1. Find the spring bar – a small metal pin that secures the strap between the lugs. Gently push the edge of the strap inwards to reveal the spring bar.

  2. Using the forked end of your tool, compress the spring bar inward.

  3. Gently release the strap from the lug. Repeat on the opposite side.

Step 3: Fit the New Leather Strap

  1. Insert the spring bar into your new leather strap.

  2. Place one side of the bar into the lug hole.

  3. Compress the opposite end with your tool and guide it into place.

  4. Move the strap slightly until you hear or feel the spring bar click securely.

Repeat on the other side.

Step 4: Check the Fit

Give the strap a gentle tug. It should feel firm and secure. A well-fitted strap not only protects your watch but ensures the best wearing experience.

A New Look for Your Watch

A leather strap carries with it an elegance that only improves with time. Just as leather naturally develops a rich patina with wear, changing your strap allows your Rotary timepiece to grow with your personal style. From formal evenings to everyday wear, a simple strap change can redefine your watch without ever losing its essence.
